Independent Study

» Theatre Department I.S. Titles

Each College of Wooster student creates a final research and production project (Independent Study or I.S.) in their senior year. Students design and research their own project under the guidance of a faculty member. In the Theatre and Dance Department, a student might focus on acting, critical or historical research, scenic, lighting, costume, or sound design, play writing, or choreography. For example, Catherine Jane Hammond ’03 studied the relationship between humor and drama for her I.S., The Last Laugh. Another student, a double major with English, researched the cultural construction of the vampire and based choreography and a dance performance on her findings. Employers in many diverse fields value the organization and research skills that Wooster students hone during the I.S. process.
