Independent Study

» Geology Department I.S. Titles

Wooster’s geology program is tailored to the individual. The capstone of this independent learning process is the senior Independent Study thesis (I.S.). Students, with the guidance of a faculty mentor, design and pursue original geological research. Recent examples include:

  • Paleomagnetic Remanence and Anistropy of Magnetic Susceptibility of Dikes from Super-Fast Spread Crust Exposed at Pito Deep Rift by Andrew Horst ’07;
  • A Stratigraphic and Paleoenvironmental Study of the Middle to Late Jurassic Transition (Callovian-Oxfordian Boundary) near Kraków, Poland by Elyse Zavar ’07
  • Origins of Garnet in Peraluminous Granitoids found in the South Mountain Batholith, Nova Scotia by Jessica Hark ’07.
