The Major
The minimal major consists of eight courses plus English 401 and a two-course
Independent Study Thesis (English 451 and 452). Courses in the major are to
be
distributed as follows:
- Required: English 120, English 200 (prerequisite 120), English
401 (prerequisite 200), and English 451 and 452.
- Electives: Six to ten courses, including two courses in literature
before 1900, at least one of which must be in literature before 1800.
Courses that fulfill this distribution are designated by “[Before
1800]” or “[Before 1900]” in the course description.
