The Major

A major in classical studies may emphasize either classical languages or classical civilization. An emphasis in language requires a minimum of seven courses in Greek and Latin, and at least one course in classical civilization. A major with emphasis in classical civilization will take a minimum of eight courses, with at least three of these in either Greek or Latin and the rest in classical civilization.

Students often double major in classical studies and a second field such as Archaeology, English, History, or Theatre. The department also offers a minor consisting of six courses. As with the major, students can choose between emphases in classical languages and classical civilization.
