The Major
A major in chemistry provides students with sound training for a professional
career in chemistry as well as related areas of science and the medical
professions. The minimum major consists of 12 courses in the department,
along with physics and mathematics courses.
By combining the methodologies and knowledge of physics and chemistry,
many intriguing scientific questions can be addressed by a student with
a strong predilection for mathematics and the physical sciences. Molecular
structure, spectroscopy, symmetry, and reaction rates and mechanisms provide
measurable ways to test theoretical predictions and to understand a wide
variety of materials. There are also special programs, including 3 - 2
chemical engineering arrangements with Case Western Reserve University,Washington
University, and the University of Michigan. |
